Pond Pump Sizing: Some Handy Indicators

Here at solarpondpumps.org we’ve created a set of symbols to help you choose the right size solar pump for your application or needs. These symbols are intended to be general guidelines and we’ve sized them according to the total volume of water for a particular application. For example, a solar pond pump with an Extra-Small Icon is for “bodies of water” with less than 150 gallons of water — a small urn, mini fountain, container pond, etc. Likewise, a solar pond pump with an Extra-Large Icon is for very large “bodies of waters” (greater than 1001 gallons of water), such as livestock watering and rain runoff reservoirs.

Here are the icons we use throughout this website:

Extra-Small Applications: Up to 150 U.S. gallons of water
Small Birdbaths, Small Containers (Urns & Vases), Mini Fountains
Small Applications: 151 – 350 U.S. gallons of water
Birdbaths, Container Ponds, Water Sculptures, Small Fountains
Medium Applications: 351 – 500 U.S. gallons of water
Backyard Ponds, Fountains & Waterfalls
Large Applications: 501 – 1000 U.S. gallons of water
Large Retention Ponds, Large Fountains, Remote Water Needs
Extra-Large Applications: 1001 or more U.S. gallons of water
Commercial Ponds, Reservoirs, Irrigation, Ranch / Livestock Watering
